10 Aug Jess Hart- Beauty Maven, Supermodel and Aussie Icon
Managing to pin down Jess Hart during one of her whirlwind trips to Sydney is no easy feat, but somehow we managed to do it and locked in some studio time with one of the worlds busiest models. Juggling her modelling career and her cosmetics label has Jess leading a hectic life of work and travel. So it was with great pleasure we got her in to the studio to have a chat and shoot these stunning images.
Jess and I spoke about beauty, body image, inspiration and career…
LUMA Cosmetics is Jess’s own creation, inspired by her love of effortless natural beauty the range consists of products designed by Jess herself. I used exclusively Luma Cosmetics to create these stunning looks.
If you could give your 15 year-old self one piece of advice what would it be?
I’ve now learnt to remember that ninety-nine percent of the girls in this industry are pretty, but it’s also about your personality. Don’t get so caught up in what other people think of you, or who you think you’re meant to be. Just be you and the best you can be.
With such a successful career it would seem like many of your dreams have already become a reality. What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve in the future?
I’m not so much of a goal setter, I like to live more in the now and just be positive about the future. I like the unknown and I just know that whatever happens, happens! I can only hope that myself and the people I love live a happy and healthy life.
How do you like to relax and unwind after a hectic job or work trip?
I love to just be at home and hang out with my dog, Floyd. When I’m away, I love to use the hotel spas! 🙂
What is your favourite indulgence?
Room service, breakfast in bed or dinner in bed watching a movie – actually an entire Sunday in bed watching movies!
Last fashion item you bought?
Charlotte Olympia shoes
What beauty secrets do you swear by?
Work with colours that compliment your skin tone. I have a more yellow tone in my skin so I use more peachy tones. Brown/copper tones also work really well for blue eyes. I use my bronzer as an eye shadow or fawn/ taupe colours work well too. I love to use Illuminating Highlighter and the many different ways to use it to highlight areas of your face. I apply mine to my brow bones, cheekbones and upper lip. If you’re wearing a dress or top that allows it, it’s great on your collarbones and a touch on your shoulders too 😉
Negative body image is rife among young Australian women. Do you have any advice that you would give to young women suffering from low self-esteem?
My mum brought me up to be an individual, she taught me the attitude ‘take me as I am’ and that it was completely fine to not be chosen for a job. I think it’s definitely helped me to stay grounded and not let a lot of things get to me. Beauty comes from within, my advice would be is to find out what makes you different and focus on the things you love about yourself and own that. Different is beautiful!
What do you think is the key to being successful?
Work hard and love what you do, because that makes working hard a lot easier. Always give 150% no matter who you’re working for or how little that job may be. The universe will pay you back for the effort you put into every job.
In your eyes what makes someone beautiful?
I believe, that beauty comes from within. Someone physically beautiful won’t be beautiful forever. I have this weird theory that an older women that has aged gracefully and still looks stunning and soft must have been a really good person…haha…something to live by whether its true or not!
